Episode 6 – Andy McKenzie

This episode is a landmark for me. 6 podcast episodes. Never when starting this did I think that with 6 uploaded episodes and another 6 recorded I would be in this position.

This episode is a full length episode on all platforms.

Andy McKenzie was always slated as a guest and one that I have wanted to interview to dial into his habits and routines but also his background.

He was a Paratrooper, he is a father, he’s a strength coach, mentor, author for several publications, he’s a thinker and problem solver.

Our conversation is varied and delves deep into his background, teases some habits, gives you strategies to help with tasks and strength. We also talk about the best 3 pieces of equipment to improve fitness and strength.

The outcome of this conversation is the pay off and I’m really embracing this idea.

It’s gonna get colder

So the new habit, cold water immersion. The benefits are many:

  1. Increased alertness – How I need this now that coffee has been eliminated.
  2. Stronger immune system – those that have adopted this method have shown less illness due to common cold and flu.
  3. Boosted mood – Cold showers activate the sympathetic nervous system and increase the availability of neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine and endorphins, people may be less likely to experience depressive symptoms after a cold shower.
  4. Improved physical recovery post exercise – by reducing inflammation and reduce feelings of fatigue
  5. Improved lymphatic and cardiovascular circulation – it stimulates the heart to work harder shunting blood through the body.

Man I’m in, so in…..First where’s my towel.

Martin Silva

What a guest, we talk eating disorder, the land where we grew up, diet, high frequency training, life post covid, cold water therapy, my lack of coffee and karaoke mics.
